Question Text Over Live Video

I have been asked to research some options to project live video with text (verses, songs, etc.) during service for my church. I really can't have any delay in the live video as it will be on the font screen in the sanctuary. I’m a little lost where to begin. We currently are setup with a mx4 mixer but I’m not really sure how to make that work effectively for the text over video. I know I can use chroma key but I just have been happy with that. Plus I can’t easily input my pc feed into the mx-4. I am open to any suggestion and any suggestion would be very much welcomed. Ideally I would like to be able to bring the video input into the pc and do the overlay there but some of the software I’ve tested has some latency issues. I know there are lots of churches out there doing this stuff I’m just not sure which direction to head and would love guidance.

If you look at this web page a click on Religious services - Dual (compixmedia.com/video/player/demo_part1.php) this is some examples of what I love to accomplish. Also if anybody has any insight on the compixmedia products I would love to also hear that.

One thing I forgot if it is at all possible I need it to be easy to run.

Thanks in advance.

Computers are usually always out of the question for text overlay, because of the delay of the a/d conversion.

First thing you'll need is a scan conveter, which will conveter your vga/dvi signal from your computer into a composite/component signal to go into your MX1 or other device.

There are two types of keying(thats what we call overlaying a video source ontop of another) Luma key, which removes parts of the imagine based on bightness values(luminance) and chroma key, which obviously works by chrominance value. I think ethier of those would work, although i've never used chroma for text keying.

I have a MX1, but have never used it for keying, so i'm not sure how pratical it is for this function, as far as usability goes.

My suggestion would be to get an external Chroma/luma keying box. Basically, send your program out from the MX1, and your computer signal into it, and it will do the key for you. Pretty simple.

Not sure were you would get one of these from in the US. Any suggestions?

I am finding that a pc solution isn't going to work also just to much latency. I am open to getting suggestions on a charter generator or something like that. Anybody have good suggestion what are you using?

SongShow Plus has just announced support for "Lag-Free Text-Over-Live Video" if you use SSP with a BlackMagic Decklink card.

May be worth a look.

I know they were working with some churches during the testing phase.

I'm assuming the testing went well, since they now have it generally available.

I didn't know that was available, but i'd go for that for sure. Its a much cheaper option than getting a CG, or another switcher for Keying.

Decklink cards are broadcast quality gear, so the hardware will be no-problem, so assuming SSP is pretty bug-free with this feature, you'd be set I imagine.
