Composite or S-Video to Component Video

NOTE: This thread is from our email forum: ---------------------------------------------------- OK, forgive my ignorance. I'm looking at the Extron SGS-408 scaler/switcher. The inputs on the back are all 5 BNC component. How do I get a source with an S-Video, RGB, or composite output to go into the component inputs?

Thanks,

If by RGB you are talking about a computer's video card output, there are break out cables that allow you to do that. I would also recommend looking at the Analog Way products. they have some way cool stuff and I have been happy with what I have gotten from them. Check out www.analogway.com

Thanks. I'm more concerned about S-Video and composite signals being converted to go into a component input. Does analogway make products for that as well?

Yes. The Graphic Swithcer II accepts those inputs as well as RGB, Component, and HDTV. They have several other products as well as a couple of new ones that they just recently released. Take a look at their Web site, then call a buddy of mine at Worship Resources. 800-486-0305 Ask for Tom

you will need to use adapters like 5bnc to 15pin rgb/vga and 2bnc to svhs connectors. they run about $50 each

---------------------------------------------------
I need something similar to this, but can not find a place to purchase it. I have an Analogway Smart Fade which has two spots for S-video, one using the regular S-video connector and the other using the two RGB inputs. I need to hook a VCR into the one with two RGB connectors, but can not find a cable for this. Can somebody point my in the right direction to find this cable.

What you want is S-Video to 2 BNC. That's what we did on our SmartFade. We ran the 2 cameras in via S-Video and S-Video to 2 BNC. Then we ran RCA out of the cameras to the "Video In" on two 9" TV's for monitors.

Composite Video - S-Video

Is there a CHEAP and painless way to convert Composite Video to S-Video.
We are trying to incorporate the output from our Smartfade to the projector into our video productions. We presently have 2 RGB outputs on our signal conditioner - one to the projector, and idealy oue to the video system.

Sure, purchase one of these.

A simple RCA-S-video converter/adapter. I use them and they work fine. I'm sure they add nothing to your signal, just adapt it to the cable.

when our switcher came in i had 2 choices, (1) get out the old crimp tool and spend a bundle on connectors and then make adaption cables for each input or adapt the swither to our needs... i did the latter. (the unit was used and was a gift, i don't suggest doing this on new equipment)

also if you you have the cables made already, adapting connectors are available from any local electronics supply house... if you buy quantities and have extra for growth it will save you in a pinch...

blessings.
