General Metaphors What is metaphor? How do you develop metaphors? Can you help me find a metaphor for this topic? Had a successful worship experience incorporating metaphor and want to share? This is the forum to discuss these and other metaphor related ideas.

Dire need for ideas

My turn to ask for help.

We're having a guest preach for Easter. I just got the sermon title and scripture reference this morning!

It's based on Rev. 21:5:
And he who was seated on the throne said, ?Behold, I am making all things new.? Also he said, ?Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.?

The title is "All Things Made New".

And it's Easter.

Any ideas for THAT!?!

Dude, that is awesome! You wouldn't happen to still have the photoshop file of that, would you? Could you email it to me?

Something that makes it even more salient: we've got a 40% chance of snow tomorrow!

Will do. I remember playing around with making the word "New" in a modern font and applying a layer style (e.g., shiny metal), but never found anything I quite liked.

I don't know how into metaphor your preacher for the week is, but here's one of our images that could work:

I use to play Monopoly a lot when I was younger (still do now and then), and I always remember how much of a releif it was to get to GO. If you made it there and you were broke, you had a chance to start over in a sense and the next round could be a lot better than the last.

Not that you have to use our imagery. You could easily create something like this yourself, and put your sermon title on there.

Jason,

We have some blue hairs that might have a heart attack if we don't do something more obviously Easter. (I already bypassed the palm branches last week!)

However, I love how you're able to crank out ideas for ways to use the metaphors you already have. Maybe you should collect all of these responses in one place on the forum. What you did for Becky this morning was just plain genius.

Don't forget the Spark 3, "Restored" graphic.

Spark 3, Row 1, picture 5.

And similar to a previous post, "New Beginnings":

Spark 4: Row 6, picture 3.

Lostone.

Ah yes...the blue haireds.

Ideally that's how we picture people using our stuff. We created the library so that people would have multiple options for any given topic.

Len just had the idea a week or two ago of advertising that we'd help people find graphical matches from our library for their sermon topics. After Becky's post, I sent him a link and said that could be one of the ways to achieve that. We're thinking about the best way to make that work!

Way to go lostone! Those are good options too. And the blue hairs might even remember driving the original car in this graphic:

Jason,
Even though you guys include different themes with a graphic, the way you included things on my other thread really made a lot of sense and went beyond calling you a genius ... more of a pinball wizard! Looking over the different options all grouped together was just absolutely AWESOME!

Brother Gene,

Here's what I did to it. The changes are primarily to the text, although I bleached and blurred the matte behind the film reel some. The contrast levels on our screen would have made it stand out too much.

I didn't have the font you used, so I used Cheltenham Condensed Bold with Franklin Gothic Demi Condensed on "New".

I also made one to use as a background for song lyrics and text. I plan to use white text.

Thanks again, bro. You saved me hours of work tonight. Now I can spend the evening with my family!

Very nice! I like how you picked up the color from the flower for the 'new' text.

For future reference, you can find "HutSutRalston" over at dafont.com.
