Need creative ideas for digital signage

I'm not sure which section to ask this so please forgive me if this isn't the right place.

We are themeing out our children's hallway to look like a old city street. We have various "businesses" (barbershop, gas station, candy shop, bank, etc). We have one area we're building as General Store. It'll have a show room window and I'm hoping to mount an LCD tv for running announcements. We were thinking that since it's a General Store, we could just mount the tv and put sign like it's for sale. Now I think we need to do something more creative. I'd love to mount the tv sideways so that it displays in a portrait mode using something like a Brightsign product or digital sign application (suggestions for that are also welcome). We're looking at a 28"-32" tv.

So, any ideas on something we could "frame" the tv with that's fun and creative? One example I've seen is a gas pump with the gauges removed and the display mounted inside. But I need something that would be at home in an old general store window.

Ideas?

Well vertical hanging LCDs are going to cost you more money, but I will assume you knew that.

Have you thought about making it look like an oversized poster that could rotate through with advertisements/wanted posters/etc?

I was thinking about putting it in a shelf of dry goods and formatting your image to include some of those goods. Maybe put each announcement on a label of a different item.

That's cool. I saw one that was framed to look like an etch and sketch. That was pretty cool.

Yeah, I know mounting portrait is trickier. The Brightsign products support it. I know when I'm out and I see a screen turned sideways, it gets my attention a little more than a standard mounted screen. Could just be from being a techie, I'm not sure.
