Rear Projection Screen for Under $40

We have been working to convert a 32,000 square foot retail space into a worship center. In our previously rented auditorium space, we used three 24" monitors placed along the stage floor for lyrics hooked up to laptop and person sitting in the front row and running PowerPoint. The way the stage is in the new facility, it didn't really lend itself to the same set up. We ultimately agreed to set up a screen in the back and as we worked through the set up it became clear that a rear projection was necessary. The problem, we didn't have a rear projecton screen and no additional funds to purchase one. The solution, build our own. I picked up a $9.97 Canopy PEVA shower liner (frosted) from Walmart, sandwiched it between two pairs of 7 foot 1x4 boards on the top and bottom and suspended it from ceiling trusses. Total material cost for 6' 6" x 4' 10" (4:3) DIY rear projection screen was under $40. See photo for the results.

does this ever have problems swinging from air conditioning or drafts moving through the space?

definitely a creative way to save money. i've considered making rear projection screens from shower curtains before but always thought of fully framed designs. this is a good way to let gravity do the work for you.

Follow up... the cheap rear projection screen seen in original post is still working fine. Been in use now for 6 months. Air condition does not make it sway, but it's not in any direct path of vents either. The only complaint so far is that as you move to the extreme sides of the stage it makes the opposite corner of the screen harder to read (much like the effect of trying to view flatscreen TV/monitor from too wide an angle).
