***SCAM ALERT***

Today I received a bill in the mail from "DOMAIN RENEWAL GROUP"

It seemed odd to me, because I am through Enom.com

Well it had some high rates on it and stated that my account would expire soon, very professional looking bill, I will put add the image of it on here.

Anyways I looked around and found out it is a scam to make you switch your domain over and cause all kinds of problems plus they get the money...ugh...

They told me my time was up on May 25th when it really isn't until Sept 28th...bad deal....

Ok scanner won't work...but take my word for it...SCAMMERS!!!

Yeah. Me too.. it's more of a trick than it is a scam. They are indeed a legitmate company that does domain name registration. They just have a very unethical and shady method of generating business. Most subscription based services have competitors who engage in this unethical business practice.

Every 5 to 6 months I get a call from some guy claiming to be from the company that services my copier. (I say this to beware if you have a copier in your office and/or church) First he will call my office and say, "Hey, this is Ed from the copier company. I need your address and the model number of your copy machine." After I probed him for a few seconds, he became a total jerk and hung up on me. But I could see how a secretary can unwittingly give out the information thinking that she is being helpful to the copier guy. But in my situation, they weren't able to get away with it becaue my copier maintenence company is a father & son operation located across the street.

Competitors of mortgage brokers do it, competitiors of cell phone carriers do it.. you name it, there is someone out there who is trying to slam a nieve customer for their business.

you have to be careful

I think the worst thing now is calls to add you to yellow pages or the internet directory, etc. so people can 'find us'. I'm supposed to give out info? I tell them I'm on enough mailing lists and don't need any more junk mail. Usually have to hang up on them because they won't stop talking.

Oh yeah.. I forgot about those guys too.. they say, "Uh.. you mean you WOULDN'T want to be discovered on GOOGLE and YAHOO??" I usually tell them that I only want a full page ad but I can't pass a credit check. That keeps them from calling for a while.

Here is a good website Link

This is a site that I typically go to in order to report possible scams and to check the validity of some of the stuff that I get because I am always getting weird phone calls and text messages on my cell phone. Even though it is not advertised as my main business number, I freely give it out so someone probably put my number on some kind of calling list.

Anyhow, this is a list of the top cell phone/business/email scams:

I don't do the whole "Thank you for calling XYZ Corp, this is Mark Petereit, can I help you?" Very few people know my direct number, and the ones that do are all executive ADD "cut the crap" types, so I just answer my phone, "Mark Petereit".

Every once in a GREAT while, I get one of these calls. I always start laughing and say, "Buddy? Do you know you just dialed the consumer fraud unit of the Federal Trade Commission? How about I ask YOU a few questions?"

Doesn't take them long to hang up on me.

Our pastor fell for one of these bills in 2001 - and paid for it. For several years. It took me a good deal of work to get it all sorted out and away from these scum-bags.

I get them all the time for the various domains I own/manage. My father got one for his domains and I gave him this advice: if it's not from the company hosting the domain, shred it.
