Software for design

I am changing our stage everyone few months or so and am designing it pretty much in my head and making any changes to the set on the fly as needed.
I am wondering if any of you know any good software that is user friendly that I could start doing my designs on so I can get an accurate depiction of what the final product will look like before I start? I've taught myself google sketch up however, I'm not a huge fan of the more cartoony look that it gives.
Thanks in advance
Cheers,

Vectorworks but it isn't cheap and it is a full drafting program and has a learning curve, you can also use pencil and paper.

That cartoony look is where the cheap and easy show up.
Getting more realistic takes a great deal of detail, which is never simple or easy. Good software costs big bucks because it saves a pro enough to pay for itself.
Stick with Sketch-up and really learn it, but consider the Pro version.

DraftSight is a free 2D CAD program. Works well for any 2D layouts you need to make.

Perfect. Thanks for the feedback. Obviously, this is a want not a need. I will look into draftsight.
Thanks

Draftsight is one of the best free AutoCad clones I have ever used. I even use it at work. (I am a mechanical engineer by profession).
