source four 750 or 575?

I bought a used source four advertised as being a 750. It says 750 on the rear of the fixture on the insulated handle, but in fine print on the yoke it says to use no more than a 575hpl. It also came with a (blown) 575 lamp installed.

Perhaps the yoke came with another fixture originally? I put a 575 in it to be safe, but I would prefer to use a 750. What do you think?

thanks

ETC S4

Do you know what type of S4 you have? ETC Source 4 is a product line, not a specific fixture. Some are rated for 750, others for 575.

Yes, the "source four" fixture. The larger of the ellipsoidals (not the jr) in other words.

I know that etc makes 3 different lamp sizes for all of the varying source four fixtures in that line, my confusion is because the fixture I have has 2 listed on it. I'm assuming the yoke came off another fixture originally.

The butt ends of the 750 and 575 are VERY different looking. If it has the handles and says 750 then it should be a 750.

I thought so. But all of my etc fixtures are 750 and have never had a 575 so I wanted to be sure before I tried putting a 750 lamp in it.
thanks

It is the lamp socket that is the critical component that must take the extra heat. If your S4 cap will accept the extra pin (non conductive locator) that is on a 750W HPL lamp then it should be OK. The older 575W only bases do not have the extra hole for the extra pin.

What Steve said. A 750 watt bulb has an extra third pin and will not work in a 575 cap.
