How flexible is pastor?

IMHO, lighting may not be the first thing that would help change the stage area to be more contemporary. I would try to find something else other than the flouncy "valance" across the front to hide the platform legs and storage underneath. We're not trying to look cool, just trying to save a few bucks to start with. Possible banners across the white walls on both sides beyond the stage area. Colored rectangles hanging from the top at various heights on the sides of the white back fabric...

If you really want lighting, check this. Looks very similar as far as the room "make-up." Want to make sure about the beams... are they metal or are they wooden? You might be able to mount some triangle antenna truss with the help of a GC or someone reputable to do some rigging. The truss below the screen would allow some down-lighting behind the band and not mess with the screen display at all.

I see some black fabric helping to bring attention to the front area and hide the stale walls surrounding, cover with a white gossamer type of fabric in strategic places with color...

I think someone else mentioned Church Stage Design... man I wish you could do environmental projection.
Motion backgrounds right now are just with the lyrics for our praise and worship. The age ranges all over the place. They are really accepting the music. The pastor is really pushing for change. Getting rid of using the lighting in the gym was the first drive.
Some really good ideas here.

The beams are wood.

Yeah, you can go check out our galleries. There are literally thousands of things you can do.

Money (in some form or another) will be the defining characteristic of the direction you go in and what you can do.

We are getting ready to put our heads together and redo this area. I would really appreciate any specific ideas on making this more inviting and interesting. I just don't have the imagination to make it work.

Thanks.

This is a great site to check out what other churches are doing with their stages.

We have pumped our music to contemporary now we want to get away from the gymnasium looking lighting. The mercury vapor lamps just don't get it. Our stage lighting consists of a couple of flood lights and some colored light bulbs.
We want to change this big time. We want to spend a few bucks but not a lot due to we hopefully will be building within 5 years. Looking at the included pictures shows the stage with some sort of thing over the stage area hiding what lighting is there and our projector.
My thought was to use maybe 6 par56's shining at the ceiling to give an indirect lighting feel. I wanted to put some pars on the one set of beams that would light up the front of the stage where the singers and the preacher stand. I wanted to add some led's on this thing hovering over the stage to add color to the praise team. It's a small start but it's time to improve what we have where we are at. Any other ideas?
Not sure how many pars I would need or if some of those need to be gelled. Need a bit of help here.
In the first picture I want to put some sort of color wash to fill the stage area with color. Let's forget the ambient light that the picture shows. I was looking at maybe an LED wash strip, maybe 4 of them, one on each side and 2 in the front. What I don't know is do LED strip lights have a wide enough light throw to do a wash or do would they be too much of a spot?
I will be doing something with a wash on the back wall once they finish redoing the stage.

Dont expect too much from LED color washs,
Most LED units are not really powerful enough,
They can be used on the backline,
more as an effect rather then a wash.
If you want strong washs,
then you should consider par cans.

Completely untrue. You can get awesome washes with LEDs. It is just a matter of having the correct LED for the job.

I'm just not one who can visualize. Someone give me a design or idea I can put it together. You should see my landscaping at home.

Okay, then let's start with budget (on my phone, can't scroll back through to see if this has been covered before).

Can't seem to get a reply on the budge question. I was told there is no money, usual answer. Not getting much cooperation out of trustee board. The deacon board though wants to direct some Christmas funds towards lighting or sound, my call. Kind of irritating when the trustees determine what is needed in service enhancement. They look at it as a want not a need.
