Red face nsi nd4600

I was given a nsi nd4600. I don't have a clue of how it works. Do you need a controler or does it work without one? Any help will be appreicated. I did download the owners manuel but it wasn't any help.

You do basically need a controller. If memory serves me right, in the absence of a control signal, all of the NSI packs of that era would switch everything full-on, so if you didn't have a board you would be able to have lights on, all on at full.

To control it, you would need an NSI Microplex board -- these predated NSI's adoption of DMX512.

I want to say that old Sunn protocol is different than old Nova protocol. I could be wrong, but back in The Dark Ages there was not much consideration for interoperability of multiplex protocols between manufacturers. You basically had to have an NSI board to talk to your NSI dimmers, or a Sunn board for your Sunn dimmers, and so on for the other 20 different control multiplex protocols, and then add on the three or four oddball analog voltages, and it was a mess.

It's really only been about 20 years in the pro market, probably 10 in the MI market, that compatibility has even been a consideration for manufacturers.

For an NSI board, the places I'd look first are Ebay, Full Compass, Norcostco, Barbizon, and places like that.
