Elation Stage Color - no LED display, no light

Hey all,
Looking for any guidance y'all can provide on some Elation Stage Color fixtures (non-LED) on which the LED displays (and any display of light) have stopped functioning.
This does not seem to be a case of the LED display burning out - I have switched out the display which does not seem to have fixed the problem.
We've now had this problem on five out of six fixtures, which we purchased used.
Any ideas on what the cause (and remedy) for the problem might be?
Thanks in advance,

Megin

Megin,

Can you provide a specific model number for your lights? Looking at Elation's web site the Stage Color is an LED light source in a PAR can so I'm wondering about your "(non-LED)" note.

Generally though, if there are no functions at all from something, it could be a power supply issue. (As in pluged-in, turned on, fuses OK, personality settings, etc.)

Steve,

Here is the link to the product details page on the Elation web site. I don't have the serial numbers handy here, but can get them tomorrow.

Since I can't post links yet, start with elationlighting.com and add
/ProductDetails.aspx?ItemNumber=1077&Category=Stage%20Lighting

When plugged in the fan comes on, but there is no LED display or any output of light. Thought I checked the fuses on a non-functioning fixture, but you're right it does sound like a power issue. I'll check again tomorrow.

Thanks

I don't know the fixture, but I'd put money on it being a low-voltage power supply issue. The fan should be after the line fuse (they still use those, right?), so if it's a blown fuse it would be in the DC line.

Do those things have an Enable switch, I wonder?

Well, considering all the fans used in these units are normally low voltage DC power, the fan coming on rules out a power supply/transformer issue for me.

I would start at the transformer and follow the line to the display and see if something is burned out.

So, this is truely the non-LED source, color mixing PAR. Have you downloaded the manual from this web page? It gives several troubleshooting pointers. The specific one that looks likely is the INTERNAL fuse. The three external fuses are listed as being for the three lamps (blue, red, green). Since the fan comes on but the display does not, I'd look for that internal fuse.

Another thing to double check is the type of lamp that is in the fixtures. Two of the four listed in the manual have only a 300 hour average life. It is also VERY important with this style of tiny lamp to not touch the bulb at all with your fingers when installing them. This will greatly shorten their life.
