We send out mass eMailings to about 500 eMail addresses every Friday, and sometimes twice a week when special events arise. We give an 'opt out' statement at the end of every mailing...

The only time we ever get a negative statement is when someone has left the church and wants removed from the eMail listing, and even this is usually cordial. I usually get a single 'remove' request once a month, although it's been a few months since the last.

I believe most people are intelligent enough to realize that if they provide their eMail address to the church, then there is a possibility of getting eMail messages. If someone dislikes getting messages, then they probably will not provide their address to begin with. This is pretty logical to most folk.

We get far more removal requests from people receiving Snail Mailings/Post Cards about upcoming concerts, etc. And these requests usually state something to the effect that we can save $$ on ink since they are informed about the concerts in the eMailings, so please remove them from the Snail Mail list.

This is just my experience after sending mass mailings weekly for the last 6+ years. However, your mileage may vary...

When we started mass emailing our databse, we didn't give any thought to offending or irritating anyone. In my opinion, there is only one reason why anyone would voluntarily put their email adress on an information card: because they don't mind if you use it. Otherwise, they would simply leave that blank blank.

We've probably done a dozen or so mailings to a 1,500 member list. Not a single complaint in 6 months.
