How a search engine transformed my browsing experience

WARNING: The following tips for lightning fast internet exploration may cause you to spend the rest of your day staring at the screen. You've been warned

Last week I learned about some totally amazing internet interfaces. I'm generally a sceptic about such (i.e. don't even try to get me to install another browser, I'm not interested), but whenever I've shown this to anybody, they've been totally wowed. First, there is this search engine called www.searchme.com that will transform how you search for and find web pages. It's sort of like having all of the pages on the internet in a high speed rolodex that you can flip through at light speed. Here is an example screen where I was searching for "church scaler" trying to find other outlets for Just Add Power devices:

The other amazing tool I picked up was the Cool Iris extension for Explorer, Firefox, and Safari. Cool Iris ( www.cooliris.com ) is the fastest thing I've ever used to search for images and content on the web. It is worth the few minutes to download and learn how to use.

All they need to add is the sound effect of a deck of cards being rifled and my ADD will be overcome!

My only gripe with Cool Iris is having to load an extension. That's what makes www.searchme.com so sweet - it just works.

Yeah, that's one of the reasons (among MANY) I haven't made it highest priority.

I like Google for the utter simplicity of the user interface -- being that it's essentially a blank white screen. I thought the exact opposite was Yahoo. I was wrong.

Searchme certainly is pretty.

I was 100% google until this came along. I find the text in a google search response to be only a rough indicator of what the website will be like. Being able to see the web pages - really fast - before clicking into the site really works for me.

I like the interface, but I think I'm still liking Google's searching abilities better.

Maybe Google will buy them out for a more visual interface option...
I bet that's what they're hoping for.

I've been a google and alltheweb.com user for the same reason that Creonus said- Simplicity.

I might build a PC for the purpose of trying this out but I am a bit skeptical.

Yeah.. one thing that that I like about google is that the searches aren't swayed by advertisers. One thing that I had always hated about the MSN search engine (that windows defaults you to on a new install) is that if I am looking for the pinout on a 25-pin serial cable, I'll get 10 companies SELLING a 25 pin cable on the first page.)

You shouldn't need to build a PC to try the www.searchme.com website - should work with most any browser out there.

FYI, when I used searchme for "church scaler" churchmedia.net was 2 of the first 3 web pages shown. Good indication by my standards

I know.. I like to do that to be on the safe side in case I cant reverse any "damage" done to the OS. The last time I rebuit my laptop, it was supposed to be for fun things like that to experiment with.. but now it is one of my main systems.
