I agree with the notion to err on the side of caution. One thing about the internet is that once you put something out there, it NEVER goes away. It's perpetually replicated and there is no way to ensure that every single site on the net is not storing your information somewhere.

IMO I think that using an alias is the safest way to avoid any problems. What most people don't consider is that on the internet there are many more people that can watch you and "follow" you without your knowledge vs. going to a public event where you have somewhat of an idea as to who you met and who saw you there.

If someone contacts me via email, phone, etc. asking for me by one of my aliases then 9 times out of 10 I am sure that it's probably someone I am not interested in talking to. I just hope that there isn't some guy really named "Ted Anderson" who is getting harrassed because of the things that I say on CMN.

Then there are people with really "unique" names, like... uh... me. Use of my name leaves little doubt as to who you are talking about, as opposed to speaking of "Bob Smith". It' had it's advantages and disadvantages over the years.

Another option, if you don't REALLY need to identify the person is to use a fake name.

Which reminds me of a funny story about a guy I know named Tim Schmeason...

I'm with kbob. If some one has offered their name, first last, or screen, then I use it.
I have had a long exciting life Yes, there were bad stories (experiences). No I know none of their names.
Already told a few stories over here.

Grand Rapids MI area

But the good ones way, outweighed the bad. But I do know a bit about Matthew 10:16.

I lived with one foot in the world and one foot in the Church. I learned AFTER those experiences to guard my real name both as a craft business and a Public Access Producer. And most of the bad stories were assaults on Christianity, not me personally, but because I, well frankly put Bible Verses on Crafts. And I exposed myself as a Christian. I was out in the Public and I was fair game.

As a Public Access Producer I am use to Release Forms and have had them signed by most of my talent over the years. That too, has been on my mind with forming up a web site.

Talking legal here are email forms signed legal? Or do you need the paper?

Till next time
Barbara

Need your help, advise on this one AGAIN

I am typing this for my web site (read more). And really don't know what to delete or no.

You won't believe this but it is true Holly Hobbie in my Google alerts. A REAL HOLLY HOBBIE

Well my hands have handled Holly Hobbie right along with the word of God. Yes about 40 years, and I was making these Holly Hobbies to put up here on verselady.com thinking the verses would be a great addition to the Valentine scripture on the Standing Hearts. Well I get Google’s news feed to me, on defibrillator and Holly Hobbie. Clicked on a Dec. Google feed for Holly Hobbie and there was a Google Blog. Yes her name (she says) is really Holly Hobbie.

BTW: Sorry I had to bump it up from so long ago. But each step I take is very important to me. Especially what we have talked about here last year.
