The local Acme (Mays Landing, NJ) has been getting Krispy Kremes shipped in fresh daily. They also put in a Krispy Kreme shop in Northfield. As I am not supposed to be eating them, I have just gazed longingly at the shop in Northfield everytime I go by.

You are obviously in the wrong part of New Jersey

After church, we have a Coffee House where you basically can sit and chat. I hate coffee, but I have been in to say hey to everyone. Maybe its because of the doghnuts.

We do a simple unattended (except for refilling the pots) coffee cart in the lobby with basic coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and donuts or cookies, all free. We invested in some nice disposable cups and lids that reduce the impact of spills, and we chose to allow coffee in the sanctuary. It makes everyone feel more welcome, and having a drink in your hand breaks down some social barriers and makes people more likely to linger and chat. Many people fill up before and come right in to the service, and quite a few stick around afterwards. We added some bench seating near the coffee area for those who would like to sit and chat. It is one of the best ideas and most effective ministries we've ever had.

As for the carpet, we bought our maintenance crew a carpet spot remover machine, which takes care of coffee and other spills really well. It still stains sometimes, but we decided that the carpet is there to serve God, not the other way around. So it's okay if a few years are knocked off it's life for the betterment of the Kingdom. I'm sure the carpet in heaven will be spotless, but we didn't see the need for spotless carpet hear on earth.

Yes, it is, Kevin. Unfortunately, too many people seem to be confused on that issue!

good coffee

I agree that using cheap coffee should be out of the question! That coffee also exploits families overseas. Our church is about to start our coffee ministry also and are using Land of a Thousand Hills coffee co. They are a Christian organization with EXCELLENT coffee. There are other great companies too but I have been drinking it for 2 years now. Third Day partners with them. Please be intentional with the coffee you serve.
