What is Church Designers League?

With the tremendous growth among churches wanting to have graphics to back up their content, there has also been a huge uptick in people learning how to do what the church wants--either via Online U or dusting off hard earned degrees.

With so much interest in design, the Church Designers League (CDL) aims to match up designers who range from just starting out all the way to those who have been slinging pixels for awhile.

CDL seeks to empower and educate designers in the church world and are working feverishly to offer a system to make that a reality.

I've been a part of other launchrock sign-ups in the past and I haven't noticed any more "junk" beyond what I knew I was asking for anyway.

When I go to the link provided all I get is a page asking you to join a group that is launching soon, there is no explanation of what the group is, what they plan to do or how they will use the e-mail address you provide. Especially since "Church Designers" is a rather nebulous title, my first thought would be those who design churches, it seems odd that they provide no information on the home page regarding the intent of the group, the envisioned members and the people behind the group before asking people to join (which apparently actually just means being sent a tryout package).

Based on this, http://churchdl.posterous.com/, it seems that the CDL is an invitation only group for which you have to submit examples of your work and have them judged as well as passing some undefined skills test. And apparently as of July 11, 2011 they already had 375 people signed up with only 80 slots open for the first year.

It may be a great group that will be a help for many but the cynic in me is asking why not more information upfront?

I've joined and haven't heard from them since.

The fact that they haven't updated thier posterous blog since july 11 doesn't seem like a good sign to me.
