| From what I've heard, the book it is based on is pretty much anti religion. However, Hollywood took that book, blanched out all references to religion of any sort so as to avoid offending anyone, and made it a space trip or something... The problem would be that people liking the movie will of course buy the book...and that would be a problem. In the realm of-from what I've heard, not firsthand knowledge. |

| My understanding of the situation is basically what k-bob said. Additionally, I understand that the first book is not as explicitly anti-God as the later books in the series are, although it lays the philosophical underpinnings for the later books. I also understand that it's an enjoyable read, although I haven't read it myself. |

| I've heard pretty much everything that kbob and dan were saying. My theory is though, all of this uproar and criticism is going to help this movie the same way it helped The Passion of the Christ. So I am not going to see it until my friend can get it on a free rental at blockbuster and then make my decisions based on that. (or just rent it, it'll still be cheaper than buying a ticket to see it) That way, if it is anti-Christian, then what I've paid for it is minimal compared to seeing it in the theaters or buying the DVD. and if I rent it, then I won't have to put it out at the next garage sale if I didn't like it. |

| I think this is another case that, if there wasn't an uproar, most people wouldn't hear about it and it would just go away. Or people would just watch it for the entertainment value and, by and large, not get the "anti-Christian" message, or not be effected by it. Just my $.02US ![]()
