External DVD Question.

I am having trouble with the internal DVD drive on our main PC glitching when playing a DVD through EZworship. We have cleaned the lense to no avail. I have the same model PC at home and the DVD drive will not play DVD's it begins to play then locks up, CD's are fine on both units, leading me to belive that this is an inherient problem with this model of PC. We have decided to go with an external DVD drive so my first question does anybody have a sugestion on a reliable and affordable external DVD drive for usb plugin? Also, is anybody curently using an external DVD drive who records from the the mixer that the PC is connected to, if so does it produce any noise through the speakers or the recording? I just got the electrical noise stopped in our system and don't want to add any more. Any help or suggestions appreciated.

There's probably nothing wrong with your internal DVD player, and an external player will more than likely exhibit the same "glitching" problem. Because it's not a hardware problem -- it's a technological design problem inherent in all DVD players. The standard simply was not designed for the type of random access typically required by apps like EasyWorship.

The only reliable workaround I have found (and this seems to be borne out by numerous threads I've read all over the internet) is to rip the clip needed from the DVD using something like Handbrake or MPEG Streamclip into a standalone video file. I then pull the video into an editor (I use Final Cut Pro) and add several seconds of black with a fade in at the beginning and fade to black at the end.

You can also create a iso or other type of disk image and play it through an emulator like daemon tools or other free one.

petereit,
thanks this may have saved me an uneeded purchase. I do have a couple of questions about using hand break, how do I select the specific track that I want from an i worship cd to stand alone file, i have only been able to scan the entire cd into hand breack then it is nearly imposible to find the specific track I am wanting. Also once I have done this how do I import the vedio clip to EZworship. I was pressed into the a/v positon at our church a year ago with vertually no experience, I have spent the last year studying and learning mostly by trial and error on the sound system and mixing board. Now that I have got that part of our tech center working like we wanted it is time to tackel the video portion. We have all the equipment I am just lacking a little in the knowledge department and I really don't want to go through all the trial and error like I did with the sound portion, I am so glad I found this site. Thanks in advance.

I use the free VLC player to find the correct chapter number.

Start the DVD in VLC and navigate to the video you want. When it begins playing you can select Playback>Chapter to find the corresponding chapter number.

Thanks again and I have figured out how to get from my video files to ezworship. I can see it will take some time to get all the songs I need loaded but it will make our life so much easier when it is done.

I find it's easiest to do them the week before as needed.
