clipboard Storage

Just wondering what over people are doing in regards to hard drive storage and video files. Once you're done a project, what do you do with it? Do you save all files or just the finished product? Are you putting it onto an external hard drive somewhere? Using raid? Using some kind of server? Any info would be helpful.

Thanks

Matt

I'm betting you're going to get all of the above and then some. I keep everything on my hard drive, plus it backs up to a NAS.

We capture video live to our Mac Pro 8-core with internal RAID. After the service, we copy the video file and multitrack audio from our Tascam X-48 recorder to an external drive.

On Monday, we post-mix the audio from our worship set and edit the video for broadcast. We compress the video to H.264 for upload to Vimeo. Self-contained "highlight" clips or especially humorous bloopers are saved off to an external drive dedicated to our anniversary highlights reel. Once the Vimeo version is QA'ed we delete everything and reset for next week.

So Vimeo is our only video archive.

We also record live to an 8 core computer but don't do any multi-track audio. The video is then edited and compressed down for Vimeo. The vimeo file is saved up to a month on our local storage. Sometime within that month, it's uploaded to an online backup service.

We keep a copy on miniDV for a month. and have DVD copies available on site since December 1999.
