Real Player thoughts?

Does anyone here use or recommend Real Player?

In the past I have avoided Real Player due to some shady practices (spyware, adware, annoying and misleading pop-ups, etc.).
But, I am considering installing it on some staff and volunteer computers, primarily to allow them to easily download videos form the internet (youtube, etc.)

I, myself, use FireFox & Download Helper. But not everyone uses FireFox. Some prefer IE.

thanks for the advice.

I use MacTubes on my Mac.
Here are a list of Windows utilities from CNET-VersionTracker for reference if you want a utility to download YouTube specifically.

Agreed. I've had Real Player on my banned spyware/malware/crapware app list for YEARS. Even longer than Flash.

Me too, but I have not investigated it for years either, so I was wondering if it behaves better now.

Do you mean www.keepvid.com? I have used that too, but it does not always work well, especially with non-youtube videos.
Also, it requires more 'user effort.' This is very important to our less computer savy folks. Real Player puts a button in the browser right over the video to "Download this video." Download Helper (Firefox plugin) has a little icon that makes it pretty easy too, but not quite as simple as Real Player.

Being a tech nerd myself, I do not like Real Player. But, I understand its appeal to less technically inclined persons.

I think I am trying to talk myself into accepting Real Player....
Does anyone have some CONCRETE reasons not to use Real Player?
or
Something to allow video download in an easy and intuitive way?
