4 conductor 'TRRS' headset for laptop?

I recently got a new HP Envy17 laptop.
But, my cheap ole microphone headset (for skype, etc.) does not work with it.

The problem is the laptop has some sort of jack I have never seen before with a 4 conductor 'TRRS' that puts the stereo headphones & mic all on the same connector.

My headset (and everything else I looked at) has a fan with 2 connectors; one for the stereo headphones & the other for the mic.

Anyone know where to look or what to look for to find the right headset with the correct connector for my laptop?

I suppose could go with a USB headset.... but then why would HP use this odd jack in the first place?

sounds like it probably matches the standard 3.5mm jack that is on smartphones these days... buy a cell phone headset and try that.

That's it. Get a headset designed for a smart phone. Apple laptops do this as well. Someone must also make an adapter. I'd search ebay.

Yeah you can get adapters, a good electronics store should have it or look online.

Some cell phones use a 2.5mm connector instead of 3.5mm. Just make sure you get the 3.5mm.

FYI according to http://pinouts.ru/PortableDevices/ip...k_pinout.shtml , Tip is left, ring is right, ring 2 is ground, sleeve is the mic. It's a standard connection.
