Giveaway of the Day - Paragon Partition Manager 2009 Special Edition

Great software for those that might need to do partitions. Always a good idea when setting up a new pc, as you can create separate os and data partitions (well, better still to have multiple hard drives, but I digress).

giveaway of the day is a great site to check out daily-some really great software occasionally, albeit mixed in with the occasional turkeys.

www.giveawayoftheday.com. As always, offer is only good the day of the offer, and must be downloaded and installed same day.

A review of the software is available here:

yes-though there might be a way to do that within xp or vista itself, this software makes it easier. Only exception seems to be that you can't load this under vista 64 bit-though that was unclear as I read it.

The Gnome Partition Editor is free and should work on your 64bit OS.

Frankly, depending on LeAnn's needs, I'd consider running the second OS in a virtual machine (VM). With the hardware being virtualized, you'll loose some of the features, like the graphics adapter, but I prefer it over a multi-boot option.

Virtualization is useful in certain respects, but not in others. I dual-booted XP with Win7 because a few of my older video games wouldn't work with Windows 7 (not that LeAnn plays video games...ever...). that game wouldn't work with the virtualized GPU. Vista and XP can be dual-booted without a problem (did it during the Vista beta phase). It's a lot more complicated to do if Vista is installed first than if XP is the starting OS, but it is possible either way. If XP is installed second, you'll need to do some fancy digital footwork to customize the bootloader to recognize both XP and Vista, but there are tutorials online to do it.

Blonborg's recommendation of GPartEd is a very good one. Very simple to use. A similar app with a slightly more familiar look about it is PartEdMagic. Same guts, but is less linux-like. (site is currently down, but google it).

Most of the time when I'm partitioning, I either don't have an OS installed, or don't want to partition from an installed app.
