I've been curious how conference based licensing works.

Does the conference buy licenses and resell them to the churches? Or do you have to give them out?

Does each church have to buy a copy of the official media, or can the conference buy one CD and make copies?

Thanks.

I thought that Microsoft disallowed religious organizations from participating. I looked into this about a year back and that is what I found.

We purchased out copies about a year ago. We were initially looking at the Student and Teacher (now called home and student) edition that you can pick up everywhere and Microsoft disallowed religious organization from legally using that version.

We use ASAP software to buy our Office products - http://www.asap.com/ - and they do hardware, too. Unbelievable pricing. We've used them for a number of years.

Those of you from United Methodist congregations should make sure that you're aware of TechShop...

I think there's different levels of Microsoft charitability (and Adobe, for that matter), Shaun. Churches don't qualify for the free stuff, or the rock bottom pricing that say your county United Way or Woman's Shelter might qualify for. [TechSoup provides those kind of licenses for many organizations.]

But we've never been turned down as a 501C3(whatever) from CDW or CreationEngine.com (which is who handles our Adobe licensing).

It's hard to say whether this comes out of anti-religious secularism or fear that the general public will think that religious terrorists in the middle east are using MS Project to better organize themselves.

Granted, it would be nice if the terrorists started using MS Project. There'd be at least 3 years without an attack while they tried to figure out how to use the thing.

And then it'll be time to upgrade it ... and then there will be constant upgrades for another year; so it's 5 years until it's usable.
