Anyone use Crucial Ram?

Hey guys, one of my other computers only has a 512 in it it. I need to upgrade it to atleast a gig so I'm thinking of getting crucial RAM. I have a dell Dimension 2400. I'm not worried about matching the ram up becuase my computer doesn't support dual channel ram. I'm thinking of getting the 1 gig, wich will make it 1.5 gigs overall.

My question: Has anyone ever ordered ram from crucial? If so, how did it work?

EDIT: Or what about the brand Wintec?

or any other brands, what is the highest quality ram I can get? Are there any other brands that you would reccomend?

Thanks in advance?

Steve

Honestly, if you're only getting this small amount of RAM, any company's product will do. Also considering that your board is old enough not to support dual channel memory, fine-tuning and increasing memory bandwidth isn't much of a concern; were it, I'd still recommend matching memory for consistency in optimal latencies.

Given that you are on a Dimension 2400, I'd recommend you rethink spending any money on RAM just yet. For what purpose is this computer being used? Given that it's only got a 2.4gHz Celeron-Pentium 4, and that it runs on Intel's i845GV chipset, I doubt RAM is going to be where your performance bottleneck occurs. Oft times in technology, we get this emotional attachment to augmenting numbers when we should augment performance and results.
Given that RAM is the easiest option for either case, it makes sense that we all jump to it so quickly. In this case, the kind of increase in RAM you're talking about will help- but probably not to the degree you're expecting.

Also, note that your computer doesn't support DDR400 natively, and given that DDR itself has become outdated, check into getting your native DDR333 RAM.

So, I ask, for what is this machine to be used, and for what software is the 1gB requirement outstanding?

I always use Crucial Ram. When ram is bad it can take forever to figure out that it is the ram that is causing the problem. I have only been using Crucial for about 3 years, but I havn't got a bad stick from them yet, so I will pay the premium for the brand name. I just don't trust generics anymore. It's just not worth the effort.

Here's another vote for Crucial. You can probably beat the price if you work hard but it's reasonably priced, easy to get and always worked for me.

I'm different i use Patriot ram almost exclusively. I played with different brands for a while and found that Patriot's quality department was on it's toes. I have yet to run into a bad set of ram from them so i'm going to keep riding the wave until it happens. I have used crucial and while i can't think of a bad experience with them i also can't think of a good one either so i would say they would be safe to use. Bumping up the ram from 512 to a gig in a laptop will give you a pretty good boost since you will not be swapping files as much.

Steve, I wouldn't be too worried about the brand of your RAM you're going to purchase.

That said I use generics in my older computers but for my good one I use Kingston only.

Crucial is great - they have an excellent memory selector tool and their prices are good too. Kingston also has a good memory selector tool as well, but I prefer Crucial. I've never had any compatibility issues with their RAM.

We use Crucial here at home, too. About to add some to a computer at church, and we priced out Crucial for it, too.

looks like we're starting a crucial fan club here!

I have used kingston a couple of times, before several people I trusted all recommended crucial.

never tried crucial...mostly Patriot. Not 'cause I've had bad luck with anything else just found that it worked well so I stuck with it...plus it's got a cool name!
