General ? about Mixer board Hey Friends, I have a question to ask of something I dont understand, The individual slider on the bottom of the board when its turn down or up it affects the EQ and monitors too, why is this? I thought the slider is suppose to control only the house speakers. We have a Mackie VLZ 32 pro board Thanks, Tim

I believe on that board aux 3 and 4 have a pre/post switch right below aux 4. Aux 5 and 6 are probably jumpered on the board as post fader as they are set up for effects units such as reverbs that are usually run post fader. Your instruction book should tell you how to modify the board to make aux 5 and 6 pre fader, but in small print likely says will void your waranty.

As noted, Group or Subgroup and Main sends on a mixer are almost always post-fader. Aux sends are usually some mix of pre-fader and post-fader or may be selectable between the two. Pre-fader literally means the signal is taken before, or pre, the channel fader while post-fader means the signal is derived after, or post, the channel fader. Thus the channel faders will affect any post-fader signals since they originate after the fader but do not affect pre-fader signals as they originate before the fader.

I don't mean to offend the intelligence of Tim or anyone who may read this in the future, but just to be clear, what you called "individual slider on the bottom of the board" is what the rest of the posts are referring to as the fader and what they are talking about with regard to pre & post. ![]()

Whew! Its just that sometimes these guys just assume the rest of us know what they are talking about. I wish they would use real terms like "thingamajig" and "watchamacallit" like normal people. ![]()
