Contact Cleaner/TV Tuner Spray on Amps & Whatnot

So I've always used this stuff on my guitar pots and inputs but I just want to make sure it would't be unhealthy to clean amp connections for our sound system. We're getting a lot of ambient hissing and stuff and one of our tech. gurus suggested cleaning the connections but he didn't necessarily say with this stuff. He is also unreachable for a while so I cannot confirm what to clean them with by him.

Also, I couldn't find actual contact cleaner/TV tuner spray but could find Radio Shack Electronics cleaner for inside electronic devices, circuit boards, and battery contacts. As this system is a pricey one, I'm leery of using it before a bit more confirmation that this is what I think it is.

Thoughts?

I prefer to use Caig DeOxIt. For sensitive pots you will want to use the 5% solution. For contact closures and connectors the full strength stuff works great.

Who is using open pots now? Most everything is sealed. Cleaners are not going to get inside of most potentiometers unless you are using something like this: http://www.premierguitar.com/Magazin..._Miracle.aspx\

Some people go so far as to drill holes, make all kinds of adapters, etc, which is silly to me, because there is no way to get all of the fragments out of there and insure that the wiper will have 100% contact. It would be smarter to replace the pot. The best way to clean a pot is to use it often. The wiper will clean the contact path.

There is a De-Ox-It Fader for fader wipers and open, stepped, pots. I use keep the Gold use limited to contacts and electronics.

I use CRC QD Electronic Cleaner (from the local auto parts store). It gets the job done, leaves no residue, and I've yet to find anything that it will harm.
