Brad beat me to the punch on the Buttkicker - an excellent piece of kit to add. Our bass players (actually ALL instruments) are on in-ear monitoring. Drum throne and bass player have Buttkickers. They get the feedback they need and it actually pulls the rhythm section tighter (in our experience).

Other issues have been well-addressed by others. Whoever has authority must speak into this.

Last but not least we made this part of our mission statement -

We are hear to serve the Body of Christ, not to ask it to serve us. We must not ask the church to bear the weight of our creative dreams.

Jesus speaks to this issue in Luke 17:7-10. If I find myself bristling when I read that, I know I have uncovered a pride issue that has to be wrestled down.

We keep our guitar and bass amps off stage and mic'ed up in an amp room. That signal is then piped into our avioms. Everyone is happy and the stage volume is low.
Is this a possibility for you

I like that idea. I think Rush does that too, you are in good company!

Is it a dedicated amp room?

How do they make adjustments? Is the pedal board all they need to mess with?

They could keep the heads on stage and just put the speakers in the amp room, if it's a removable head. Otherwise, there could be some consernation when you try to take a sawzall to thier amp to make the head removable....

Borrow a wireless so he can play whilst standing at FOH during a rehearsal, allowing him to hear the problem. If he can't hear the problem, get the musical director out there to hear it, so he can deal with it.

Another option might be a cab and amp emulator such as a Tech 21 SansAmp or Line 6 POD.

Many bands do this, infact brad paisley did a show here last month and his guys had fake amps on stage for looks and all the cabs were in a room 100' feet away. For us as a church, I've used a storage room near the sanctuary, in another worship space I use the childrens church prop room, and for our new sanctuary I've insulated the underside of our stage and built trap doors on either side of the stage and keep all guitar amps under the stage. If you decide to go off stage with the amp and your cable run is long a radial gsi guitar interface may be appropriate.
Our guitarist set there amps tones and volumes and make any other adjustments at the pedal board. I do have one guy that sets his amp head onstage for tweaking which works great for him!
