Yamaha 01v96 Question

Howdy,

We have a Yamaha 01v96. Use use 6 of the 8 Aux Sends as individual monitor sends and the RCA2TR out to record the message to PC. I an additional XLR output to a video camera for capture of the message. I would rather not use another Aux because I would like to use the other 2 for either effects send or sending a mixed signal for recording worship music.

Any ideas???

Thanks,

~Corey

XLR output might be too loud if you are going to a mic input on the camera. The RCA output would be better if the camera has a line level (RCA) input. If you are mixing mono (should be if you are only trying to record the message) the camera and PC could each use one of the RCA jacks.

If you are just trying to get the sermon audio from a single microphone then you could just split the signal before it hits the 01V and send a feed to the camera and a feed to the mixer.

If it's too hot, or not hot enough, for the camera then you could get a small 1 or 2 channel mixer for cheap and take care of it that way.

TWJ- The camera has an XLR in. How would I convert one side of the RCA to XLR?

LES- Sound like a good option. How would you recommend spliting the signal? Will that reduce the quality of the source that is going into the house?

I would just get a mic splitter box that takes one in and gives you a direct output and an isolated output. There are several options from different companies.

The Rapco SS100i can be had for around $35 or the Whirlwind IMP 1x2 can be had for around $80. ART, ProCo, and Rolls also make 1x2 splitters in between those prices.

There won't be any signal quality issues to worry about.

Some cameras have a mic/line switch on the XLR connector. You can try the boards XLR out and see if it's too loud. If it is then one of the RCA output jacks can be run through a transformer from your music store or Radio Shack to the XLR input.

If the XLR input is mic level only then Les' idea of splitting the mic before going into the board is the best solution.

How are you getting your 6 auxes out of the mixer since it has only 4 omni outs? Are you using an 8 or 16 i/o card?

We use the 2 tr dig out on the back of the mixer for our CD player, if that's possible you could use the RCA's for your camera.

I think I would run the signal for the camera through an unused bus so you could attenuate it to whatever you need, and patch it out an omni if one is free. The 1/4" to XLR would be easier to accomplish, and I think the omni outs are +4 dbu if memory serves me. (I'm too lazy to find my O.M. on the computer)

Mikey- We are using ADAT out/in to a patch bay.

I still have all 4 omni outs. I guess I could route one of my aux sends to there. I wanted to avoid that because I would like to reserve one aux for live recording of music and my 8th and final will be used for our 'Buttkicker' to get more bass to the musicians on stage. If I could use a different output for any of these things, that would be good for me.

You have all eight auxes accounted for, but what about the Buses? Do you use all of them as well?
An available bus would work fine. You can send it to any place you can an Aux. Just make sure Bus to stereo is off on the selected Bus.
If worst came to worst you could route your stereo signal out an omni as well, you just wouldn't have any control or EQ for it that wouldn't also affect your house mix.

The Omni outs are +4dbu, I checked. If you can free up a bus it would allow you to attenuate the signal considerably.

This is one powerful little desk, isn't it?
