Learning Sound

Hey everyone,

I am interested in learning more about running and setting up a quality sound system. I cannot afford, nor do I have the time to go to school anywhere. I was wondering for some advice on where I might go im the Washington/Baltimore area to learn a lot in a short amount of time and at an affordable cost.

Anyone? Anyone?

I say this quite often....

Check out your local library. They might have some books about audio that you could study.

There are a couple of books I would recommend. The Yamaha "Sound Reinforcement Handbook" is considered by many to be the Bible of live sound. There is a book that looks quite similar called "Guide to Sound Systems for Worship". I own both books and they are quite good. There is a lot of theory in these books so they are not for the light at heart.

You can find them on amazon.com here. (Tim, I hope I did this right.)

I've had the pleasure of taking Syn-Aud-Con training from Pat Brown...

Wow, you'd have a hard time finding someone that knows more about the field of audio than Pat.

You can check out the Syn-Aud-Con site HERE

They just released Pat's schedule for the coming months. If you get a chance to take in one of his sessions you will be lucky... they tend to sell out quickly.
