Ever feel that you know just enough to be your own worst enemy?

We recently (yesterday actually) got in our Sony EVI D70 remote camera. I like it! It is nice. BUT! The remote is not so nice as its effective range seems to only be about 20' Now, I have researched getting a joystick but they are not at all cheap and I am already over-budget. I have tried researching a DIY controller but that seems a futile attempt.

Most wired options require a computer but that is not practical in our situation as the camera goes directly to a V-4 and getting a computer for no other reason than to control the camera seems a bit much.

Is there are cheap wired controllers out there?
Is it possible to DIY a joystick?
Is an IR repeater my only viable option?
If an IR repeater is my only viable option, do you know of a repeater that will work? (either wireless or over cat5)

Thanks!!! :D

I need some ideas on how to get started on setting up video live streaming. Our church is growing by leaps and bounds and Our Pastor is wanting to set up live feed to display on our projection screen for those who sit in the balcany area.

Currently we use Song Select for Worship Service, and Pinnacle Studio Ultimate HD to make mini commercials for announcements.

What equipment would be needed to record worship service and the sermon and have it projected live right then as it is happening on the projection screen ....video camera types, software, computer requirements ect...

We definatly want to be able to record the video footage as well so we can have the possibility to add it to our web site.

We are trying to keep this on a reasonable budget - but understand starting from scratch can get costly.

Any ideas - Please Help

We are hoping to have this up and running in the next 2 weeks. I just got the go ahead today.

Thank You So Much!

Our church is just stepping into the live and dvd video recording. my question is, we want to have an intro video. Such as the pastor saying welcome thanks for watching etc. But how can I put that at the begining of the dvd before I record live to the recorder? Or can that only be done through computer?

Thanks!

Hello. Currently we video tape the services for the web with two cameras. The technical director "live switches" and sends to record deck. The control room is where the equipment and director is located and is off the side of the auditorium.

The Pastoral staff wants me to look into moving the equipment and director to the FOH soundbooth. They have seen other churches do it this way, but every church I have visited has the camera director and equipment in a separate room.

We do have space in our booth for the equipment, but my concern is that the director has to give commands to the camera operators and that may be a distraction.

So, I just wanted to get feedback on what other churches do. Do you have a separate control room or is your switcher and director located in the booth? Thanks

Hi there;

I'm now responsable for the media ministry on our church and I'm thinking on ways to optmize/improve things here.

We have now 3 Canon XL2 and a NewTek VT[5].
I work with VT[5] since it's Amiga's version and i believe it's a great investment.

My concern is about song lyrics.
They want the lyrics on top of the video on the projector but, they don't want it to be recorded on video.

So, for my surprise a computer running powerpoint (slides with green background) and the video output from VT[5] goes to a Roland V-44SW, so the roland mixer can key the powerpoint slides.

It works pretty well but isn't it overkill? Do we really need a US$8000 powerfull mixer just to overlay the lyrics?
Isn't there something cheap?

Thanks in advance;

Our church is has been broadcasting our service on Ustream for the last couple months using just 1 consumer level camera. We were plugging the Firewire output from the camera into the Macbook Firewire port and broadcasting that signal. I recently purchased a CANOPUS ADVC110 and now use that to connect the camera video to the computer thru the RCA plug. Although the video isn't quite as high quality, I can now move the camera a farther distance from the computer and hope to use some sort of video mixer to add more cameras and the output from our presentation computer. Our audio feed comes into the ADVC110 direct from the mixer. The problem is there is a slight mismatch between the timing of the audio and the video. Any suggestions?

Hi! I'm gathering materials for webstreaming at my church. I have 3 Picturetel PTZ-2N's that I will be bringing into a Videonics MX-1. From there, my questions begin:

1) My pastor is fed up with Winders machines (I really don't blame him especially in the church world where there are so many cooks in the kitchen) and wants to go with Mac. What is the minimum Mac (read Least Expensive) required to keep up with my application to both stream and archive (push signal to a streaming provider)
2) What are the best video cards for this machine
3) What are the best software choices for streaming and archiving
4) What about control software for the Mac?
5) Is there a way to daisy chain these cameras? In the past, I've used a different com port for each camera which was awkward.

I've got more questions, but this is a good start!

Thanks in advance for your advise in getting His word to the world!
Since they still sell the MX-70p mixer new, wonder if Panasonic has updated the driver? I've tried contacting them. They gave me the part number for a disk and order phone number, but did not answer the question if the new driver would work with Win7.

We're buying a new PC for video work and I really hate to buy XP for a brand new machine.

My wife and I currently work for a medium sized United Methodist Church in the Minneapolis area that is about to make a huge mistake regarding video.

Recently, a group of congregants suggested to one of our sound "technicians" that it would be great if we could project the children's sermon onto our projection screen live so that it can easily be seen by everyone. Now, all of the audio folks are scurrying around trying to locate the best camera angles, how to run cable, etc, without fully understanding how and what they are trying to do.

I need to point these folks in a direction that lays out the 1-2-3's and the a-b-c's of what they are trying to accomplish. Does anyone know of a good resource (preferrably in print form) that I can provide them to give the group some basic knowledge of what is required to do the job? They are flying blind with no idea of how to budget or plan this type of endeavor.

Thanks for any and all help

Any ideas for a stand-alone playback device for a semi-portable church? I'm recording HD 720p at our main campus and looking to playback the same resolution at an offsite location a week later. At the moment it seems the best option is a Macbook Pro; portability is great, the workflow would be simple (.mov off an SD card in the camera and straight into FCP), and it would be beefy enough to handle it consistently. It would be nice to skip the $1,300 price tag, however, if a dedicated device with similar characteristics of simplicity and portability could be found. Blue Ray has come to mind but that would require updating other elements (burner, workflow) and may even end up costing more.

Anyone know of such a device out there?

Thanks in advance!
