Here are the setup specs. 3 people need to be on each mic, the mics will be appx 6 feet apart from each other and about 10 feet from the stage monitors. If someone can give me some names of mics that fit this i would appreciate...thanks :)

in case this info is needed our sanctuary is appx 70' x 30' with appx 40' ceiling. Through trial and error we have minimized the great echo but these old mics have got to go.

For those of you that have Q control when using EQ, what Q settings do you use when mixing live? Do you use a narrow Q or a wide Q?

We have a very nice Genesis custom acoustic kit in a ClearSonic iso-booth with sound absorbing panels in front and on wall behind. The kit is mic'd with an Audix set - Kick, 2 toms. SM57 on snare and a shotgun condenser overhead. The drums sound bad in the mix. There is no definition to the kick and snare and the cymbals lack brightness. We're all just volunteers at a small church and none of us have deep knowledge of sound systems.

I know the first issue is the shotgun. We are looking for a pair of replacement condensers, but are unsure what to get. I like what I've read about the Oktava MK-012's and that is the high end of what we can spend on these - about $450 for the pair. Any advice on better for the money?

Secondly, we seem to be getting a lot of reverberation through the stage itself from the kit. The stage is hollow and covered with carpet, but you can really feel and hear the drums coming through it. I need advice on isolating the drums from the stage effectively.

Also, should we be looking at compressor/gate for the drums?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Ok,
So, I was at a funeral the other day and was (the curse of the audio tech) analyzing their sound system. They used ceiling speakers and a wireless handheld mounted in a gooseneck on a lectern. the audio quality was really quite good, and the volume was great, while the mic was 24 inches from the speakers mouth.

I have a room at my church which in similar to that funeral parlor. low ceilings (~10-11 feet), speaker using a lectern, etc.

So, my question then becomes, "what would you do to setup a small-medium room for live voice only amplification?".

the teacher in this room doesn't move about much, but does hand out papers from time to time, so he would pass under the ceiling speakers eventually.

thanks again :)
