I searched for information on this model and could not find any results so I'm hoping there is someone with some knowledge that could Help me. We are using the Shure PG4/PG1 Lavalier set and we are getting horrible results with reception. The pack literally has to be line-of-site to work. The user can be just 3 or 4 feet away and if they turn to one side, away from he receiver they cut out. I have tried on all the available frequencies and nothing seems to help. I have moved it from the back of the room, at the board, to right on stage next to the user and it still cuts out. I checked the cables and they are fine...it is a line-of-sight issue. Is this a normal problem for this product. My pastor bought it because of the "name" even though it was a low-end set. If this is a problem with the product then can you advise me to a better set. The distance from the stage to the board/media area is about 100 ft. Any help is appreciated.

We record our service to audio CD from our sound board, as well as transmit sound via TV cable channel for overflow and nursery.

We have trouble when people in the sanctuary speak during the service, for example, prayer requests, testimonies, volunteer pray-ers. Our sanctuary is small enough (seats 350) that people can hear the speaker, but our CD does not pick them up.

I'm looking for recommendations on picking up ambient sounds from the sanctuary, not for amplification, but primarily for the CD.

It would also help in adding some audience "singing" ambience to the CD, as well.

Type? Condenser?,
Pattern? Omni?, directional?
Number? 1, 2, 4?
Placement? hidden in ceiling, hanging from ceiling, stand in front facing rear, etc.?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Mics on boom stands for piano/organ players

Hello all,

Looking for some advice on mic types for putting on boom stands to be used by our piano and organ players.

Our church is small, and on some Sunday's we don't have enough singers present who are comfortable being up front in the choir rows. Like lots of churches we go through peaks and valleys in attendence, and on those Sunday's when attendence is lower for these key people, our instrumentalists would like to lend their voices through the system.

We have the boom stands, but I am curious if condenser mics may yield a better effect for this application. Since they can't hold the mic to be sure they are getting good proxmity all the time (which I have found quite important for dynamic mics) my thought was that condensers would work better. Their greater sensitivity working better for this situation.

Thoughts anyone? Should it matter, or would you anticipate that condensers would work better than dynamics in this case?

I don't want to simply make the dynamics "hotter" and spoil what we have been doing for our gain structure.
