We have a 25 foot flatbed trailer and 2-3 sections of 4x8 stage deck. Flatbed is 3 ft high and decking is 1 ft high. Instruments are as follows:

Keyboard & vocal - worship leader
Acoustic guitar & vocal
Electric guitar
Bass guitar
Drums
4 vocalists

I can provide max of 4 monitor mixes. Suggestions on where to put people and instruments?

Thanks.

It seems to have been an ongoing thing recently that has really bugged my wife (because I bring it up all the time) that on all these TV shows that have labs, conference rooms, electrical rooms, etc. that they really like to use EQs, compressors and other rack equipment in the backgrounds. I like to try to "name that unit" and it's not to impress her... Am I the only one that seems to pick up on that and laugh at Hollywood for misusing or misinterpreting such things? The latest one I saw was a repeat viewing of one of the Bourne movies... in the background was an older Behringer DSP8024 EQ and I could tell cuz I've used a couple wayyy back when. Anyone else do this or am I the only one?

Name a couple of instances if you can... White Collar on USA was another one I laughed at for the use of a couple of Lexicon MX300's... next to a computer used to trace a call if I remember right

I am having in issue with people saying things are to loud (older) and people saying its not loud enough (younger). We have three services but run two the same (one blended the other contemporary) then the traditional service. I was running the two services around 90-95db and the traditional around 85-87db. After the vocal minority said the traditional service was to loud I was advised to run all the services the same so I slammed them all down to 85b and not a step above. I am sure all of you know is hard especially when you add drums to the mix. its sounded horrible today. Mostly because you could not hear any of the high end which i think is because our system is an older one and I need to replace the horns but thats another time. Anyways the question is what are you running your services at that you are getting a great mix but pleasing to everyone? When I was running the contemporary at 90-95db I got more complements that they had heard thing in our services that they had never heard before. Maybe I am being drastic to slam everything to below 85db but not sure what to do.

Ok, here's the setup.

Vocal channel goes to vocal sub-master then to master volume.

Issue - Worship Leaders when they sing in their range clip on their vocal channel. When I turn the gain down to keep from clipping and they hit a part on the border of their range I can't turn them up loud enough to be heard well and of course they get frustrated w/ me because of it.
Also, when the songs are more in their range their vocals get harsh/piercing/painful for the audience. I am having to constantly jockey their channels to keep them at an acceptable level however this dramatically lowers the dynamics of the song and of course, frustrates the worship leaders.

Mixer - Soundcraft Live 8

Possible Solution - I am looking to install a compressor on each of their channels to keep them from clipping.

Question - will installing a compressor solve my issue? Any other ideas/suggestions?

I am in the process of finishing up an install I did for a local elementary school and am quite impressed with some not-so-pro grade equipment.

Here's a small rundown...
Mixer: Phonic Sonicstation 16
Amps: QSC RMX2450, (bridged, Subs) QSC GX5, (Mains) and Crown XLS 402 (monitors)
Wireless Mics: 6 AT 3000 Receivers w/5 Dynamic Handhelds and 4 Bodypacks
Speakers: Peavey Quadra 12s (Not in yet... ): Behringer B1800X Pro (Subs) and Behringer 212XLs (Monitors, serving as mains right now)
System Processor: BBE DS48
Wired Mics: 6 Behringer C2s, 2 DI Boxes, AT Gooseneck w/shockmount, Behringer Measurement
24U Wall mount rack

And all other good stuff in between.

The point I'm trying to make is that for a relativly cheap system, it sounds phenomal. Not professional grade, but it definitly hits the mark for what the principal and staff envisioned. Again, I'm extremly pleased with the Behringer gear. The only bad gear that arrived was two bad power adapters for the AT recievers. I'll try and post up some pics once it gets done. If y'all have any questions about the equipment, let me know.

We run the audio for the video straight off our mixer from an Auxiliary out into the microphone in on the camera. We are getting a lot of buzz and hum in the audio. This is only coming off the Aux Out. Sounds fine coming out the mains into the Sanctuary speakers and the monitors. We do have the controls for the lighting in the sanctuary up with us and there is no way to move it and I know this is causing a lot of the issues because when you shut the lights off, all the buzz and hum goes away. Is there anything we can do to help cut this down?
thanks

Hey Guys! We are making some much needed upgrades to the sound in our worship room and need help/advice with speaker selection and placement. Here's what's going on...

The room is 62' wide and 48' long with a fairly low drop ceiling of 12' throughout. Currently, we have a hodge-podge center cluster with 1 EV ZX5-90 in the middle and 2 older Altec Lansings flanking it. We also have 2 EV SB122 Subs, one in each corner behind the stage. Our 2 main goals in this upgrade are coverage for the sides (which is awful at the moment), and to lower the stage volume. The latter will be accomplished with a few amp iso's and an Aviom system. My main question for you guys is what can we get to accompany the ZX5-90 that we have (so it's not wasted), and what should the placement be? We thought about leaving that one in the middle and flying 2 ZX5-60's on each side, while also going with an EV TX2181 in the middle of the room under the stage (we're going to use the SB122s in our student facility). Our budget for speaker upgrades is $5000... we have all the power amps we need so that is not a concern. Just need the right boxes in the right places!

There's a very rough mock up of the room attached.

Thanks!
