Can you describe what is loaded into EW and what you're trying to play? What media? What are all of your settings? Do you have the "secondary display" set in the options? If you leave it on custom position or single monitor this will sometimes cause it to crash because your other settings won't let it do what you want it to do.

Is the Divx codec actually the K-Lite Pack? Divx won't do anything for you here. Could you mean the DirectX?

I too have a 9600GT, however I've never used EW on it. I have found that the drivers for the 9600GT are less than desirable, it appears they have flakey at best support for OpenGL, causing any application running it to crash. I've had to remove the OpenGL plugin in after effects to prevent it from loading and crashing my system.

The only suggestion I can provide is perhaps try a different revision of the driver from the nVidia website. I should note my problems have been occurring under Windows 7 Pro 64bit.

Bash My Reply

Thanks for the advice guys - I am loading normal mpeg2 videos. The secondry monitor has been set up and the settings in EW are as per another machine that works fine. If I run the video on custom - it still crashes. Running videos as backgrounds works, but it does not run independantly...any other tips on settings and stuff like that...

one last thing

I just saw that the generic mpg files that comes with EW - they seem to play, but the other mpg files I rendered in Sony Vegas - dont. This is beginning to sound like a conspiracy theory...I am busy loosing my salvation with this thing.

On video files that I am creating for EW useage, I have had the best luck in rendering to wmv file type instead of mpeg-2.

MPEG 2 has never worked well, both for file size or comparability, I agree that WMV is a great solution. Our video person, who is a Final Cut user, has been exporting as MPEG1, with great success. I think the key part is simply not using complex codecs on videos for EW, it seems to be rather primitive... if only it would use VLC or MPC, then life would be great.

It does use VLC and MPC. Not sure why you would want to use media player classic when MP11 works just as well... We use VLC on our Lenovo SL500 because those were the free codecs that we could get our hands on. WMV, MPEG and MOV are what I have told our media ppl to use. Like what was said before, the graphics driver/card could be the issue. I seem to remember I had an ATI card that SimCity didn't like a few years back. I'd build a town hall or something, it would try to render it and when the cloud of dust 'poofed' the card would freeze. Each computer is different... so glad I don't write programs and then try to defend against it not working with a million different computers... props to Softouch!

You have a codec issue. Play the video in the preview window.
Click on help, video codec troubleshooting.
What appears in the window?
