| Digital signage is the use of monitors and projectors to show your "signs" (typically powered by a computer graphics packge), instead of traditional, always the same signage.

| I've seen digital signage used for billboard type applications in welcome areas, entry ways, narthex, whatever you call it. I've also seen more advanced digital signage used with a display by each meeting room , to indicate the meeting that is meeting (or at least what the room was reserved for).

| Digital Signage is Signage that is... (simply put) digital! Instead of having a static plastic/paper/vinyl sign, you can deliver the same content using a projector or a LCD Screen driven by a computer. This allows for things that a plastic/paper/vinyl sign can't do such as: - show a moving image (e.g. video clips, animations, etc.) - be automatically updated (e.g. doesn't require a person to physically go to it to change it) - be interactive We are starting to use digital signage at our church to show room information, PSAs, wireless network "password-of-the-day", etc. These are in the place of static signs that would have previously required artwork to be rendered and then hung. Now, we can update information in a central location (e.g. room reservations on our church calendering server or a playlist for the PSAs) and all the "digital signs" are updated. One nice feature is people can update the playlist, room reservations on the calender server, etc. remotely. This means people don't need to be on site to make updates. For example, our Building Manager can relocate meetings based on projected attendence and all the signage is automatically updated! |

| Digital Signage is ... Digital signage allows you to present consumer and potential customers with highly targeted messaging and informational advertising. Last edited by osborn4; Monday, July 6th, 2009 at 07:01 AM. Reason: removed apparent self promotion |

| We got started with digital signage two years ago. Two 40" plasma monitors in the main hallway are used to show other groups that use our church where their meeting rooms are, to promote church events, and then to show whatever's onscreen during worship services. Those monitors are fed by SundayPlus. Another monitor in the Preschool hallway is used to show parents still pix of their kids in activities, and to promote Preschool events and reminders. That monitor is fed by a Roku HD600 media server. My intent is to get another HD600 or HD2000 and feed a separate 22-23" LCD monitor, both powered by a large UPS, in a semi-portable kiosk in the main hallway with the meeting room info and other event promotions. The two monitors in the hallway are located such that they're not in the normal field of view--not where you'd expect to find info about where you're meeting, so the kiosk will solve that little problem nicely. I'll put a simple timer inline between the UPS and an outlet strip for the Roku and monitor's power cords so they won't be on 24/7. At the start of each day the kiosk will be moved to a wall where the UPS will be recharged. |
