Just one more way to make licensing confusing. =: <

Note: This snarky comment is not directed at Copyright Solver, it is directed at the US legal system for being amazingly confusing and making it hard to get anything done. I WANT to support artists, but, just like taxes, I feel it is ridiculous that the system is so complicated that we have to pay someone else just to figure it out for us.

EDIT: Sorry for being so grumpy, I just woke up. =: >

Awesome, I have a feeling a lot of people that use Planning Center Online upload songs without appropriate licensing. This will definitely help us out! Although I'm going to have to increase my CCLI budget cover all the new licenses they are putting out!

I, for one, am appreciative of CopyrightSolver for posting a link to CCLI product.

Sure thing Joel. We want folks to know about any solution that makes copyrights simpler. Matthew is right that we have a way to go before copyrights truly are simple, but we are making progress.

Getting there but... It is still borderline for me.

We are a small church with 16 people that I would have to make copies for and maybe we will introduce 10 new songs a year. So that would work out to 160 copies for $100. That's a good deal but right now we send people to itunes to download their own copy for 99 cents. It's easy and if someone doesn't want to pay that price I'll give them the money.

This license is a better deal but the terms say this, "not intended to remain as permanent copies for personal collections." I didn't find a place where it specified just how long that is but I know that the songs our people buy quickly make it onto their ipods where they probably remain for a long time. So is the 37 cent savings worth it? I suppose it just depends. Nice to know it is available though, and it would be really useful for those musicals/cantatas where they will never listen to those arrangements again.

i looked up the rehearsal license thing too, nada about length of time. our drummer uses youtube and we plug her ipod through the system so we can hear it better. we listen to it a couple of times, follow along with our chord music, then put our own flavor on it. that is few and far between. i would just assume get the license that covers streaming so we would be able to keep the videos in our computer. I've wanted to let the camera run during service and just have our video guy edit us out so he could post the videos online and we wouldnt violate any laws.

i did find out that our church has been paying to use song select and we havent been taking advantage of the 200 songs/yr download. told our minister of music to go crazy since our yr is up in sept and the new count starts over.

Like the concept... copies do add up quickly (6 songs per service x 52 weeks x 8 people in praise team = 2496 copies). Granted there's some songs used more than once a year. But since not intended for permanent personal collection, I guess technically the intent is for people to turn in the media the copy is on once done.
