Webcasting if you broadcast on TV

Do you need any additional licenses if you broadcast on local TV already to webcast?

We've been broadcasting on TV for ages and started webcasting a little over a year ago on Ustream. But, I think it was assumed that our broadcast license would cover our webcast as well.

The reason I'm asking is because our senior pastor sent me an email today after I sent out one about the success of our web based media outlets on youtube, vimeo, etc saying to not do it anymore until A) people are notified that they'll be on those sites and B) that copyright issues are resolved.

So, the second part of my question is...are their any differences (especially on copyright) between ustream and sites like youtube, vimeo, tangle? They're all public access sites so I assumed that they're pretty similar since we also archive on ustream. I was a little confused as to why he would want people on those extra sites to be notified but not if they're only on ustream. Is their any validity in that statement? Maybe I'm just having a brain freeze or something, but I considered any web archive no matter what site it was on to be basically the same.

Thanks,

What are you putting up online? Praise and worship? Displaying lyrics? Any videos not produced in-house? Your content will define your licensing requirements.

praise and worship and sermon. Videos are all from IMB or we've gained permission to display them.

CCLI actually does not cover your broadcast, I don't think. I believe it covers your presentation in service only. The station pays BMI/ASCAP/SESAC fees that cover them, but not necessarily you.

We have a webcast license through Christian Copyright Solutions. They are an excellent resource; I recommend them.

A detailed analysis of the two license can be found here:

These are very different licenses, although it is very hard to tell that when you read CCLI's marketing verbiage.

Thanks for posting the comparison. I was wondering what the differences were.

The site for the CCLI license is a ChurchStreamingLicense.com.

The WorshipCast license details are here

We've already obtained the WorshipCast license but I might just buy the CCLI license as well so that I can cover video podcasting. Keeping both licenses would be really good to have in some cases.
