Question about weekly promo video
Ok... We have been doing video announcements now for about a month, and then we put them on the web. My question is this, a campus ministry that joins us some over the summer is having a car wash this week, and they gave us a 30 second clip to use in the video announcements, it uses a snippet of the song "Car Wash" that plays in the background. Doesn't play through the whole thing and uses less than 20 seconds of the song. Is it legit to play in the service, how about linking to it on our youtube (which is where we host the video announcements at this time.
Thanks for any input. I have a staff member saying he thinks its possibly fair use but wants me also to know for sure, and I'm working on finishing up this weeks video today.
btw, My thought, and what I have stood on to this point is that it is not fair use, no matter how much of it they are using. Permission must be given to use anyone elses audio or visual stuff in any commercial that you use, but I need to be able to tell them how/why so as to try to not have to deal with this more.
