I agree with the pro crowd: I've been using Joomla for the last 6 or so years, mostly for private and professional websites, and I'm still a huge fan of the community, the flexibility, and most of all, it's ability to be maintained by pretty much any luddite. The only con I have for Joomla is that it really only shines if someone is willing to continuously update the content. For my personal sites it's never been an issue, but some of the businesses I set up still have the introductory paragraphs I had them write years ago.

I've also used Joomla since it was called Mambo, I know html, css, etc well but wouldn't go back to that. Joomla leverages so much in the way of add on components.

When I keep the site structure in Joomla simple I have had good success handing sites over to people with negligible technical knowledge to look after the content.

My biggest problem is the lack of time stamp for publication onto the forntpage. I wind up duplicating every article that goes on the frontpage into a hidden category so I can automate when it comes off the frontpage.

I use templates and components from yootheme.com, there is a cost for membership; a small price for better looking and performing websites.

Joomla is confusing intially, try and keep it much simpler than the demo site.
