Anyone using Wordpress CMS?

Hey all,

I was wondering if anyone out there was using Wordpress for their website. Our website guru (actually also happens to be our pastor) is looking at it and wanted to talk with someone that has actually used it for a church before.

Please let me know if you have any experience with it and would be willing to give some feedback to him.

Thanks!

Here's a link to a list of churches using Wordpress.

I've tinkered with it in the past. In January, I installed it on my website to provide information about a hobby of mine. It's simple to install, maintain, and use.

For our church, we're in the process of rebuilding the site using Joomla (moving from a static html site). Joomla and Drupal (both popular on CMN) have a much steeper learning curve than WP. If we didn't have someone interested in learning Joomla (including myself), I'd definitely consider Wordpress as an alternative.

We just built one and will be taking it "live" soon. I was pushing for a Joomla site (and actually got halfway started on that one), but one of the other guys, the guy who built our existing site, has become a Wordpress guy, so we ended up going that way.

This weekend I transplanted the sermon page code (it actually looks at a database of sermon entries). That took some doing, making PHP code implantable there. I think I finally made it happen right .. it only took about a half-dozen tries.

Our temporary site: http://ns1.csptexas.com/crossroadswp/

We are - here - a fairly basic site just now, but it has worked for me so far. The calendar is sucked in from Google Calendar as an iCal feed, with a custom plugin to display the widget and the events page.

The site with the list of websites using Wordpress belongs to Tim Hyde who, as well as being a Pastor in the UK, is also a bit of a Wordpress evangelist and guru. Another page on his site is a good guide to getting started using WP, and he also develops themes for church sites. He's worth getting in touch with if you are going this way.

We've just re-launched our church website using WP, and although it is still a work in progress, we're very pleased with it. www.kirbyfree.org

I run several WP sites, both for churches and for blogs/info pages.

We built our churches website: http://www.graceoutreachcenter.org/ using a template from Revolution2 which is now StudioPress: http://www.studiopress.com/

We're still tweaking the design of it.

It was pretty easy to get up and going and a breeze to maintain.

We actually use the LivingOS Upsilon theme for Wordpress. I am a pastor as well and take care of our site. I'm available to speak to him if he needs to. Our site is almost ready, but it's located at www.oakcitybaptist.com

Thanks
Chris

Hey Dave, what theme are you using specifically from StudioPress? Looks great!

WordPress is GREAT for churches and also makes it easy for advanced users to manage as well as novices.

I built a collegelife.org on WordPress (college ministry -- same basic elements a church would use).

I use wordpress on my church website. I found it very easy to setup and the available plugins and templates make customization very easy, but the best part is I can refresh my sites look in a matter of minutes by swapping templates. That works great for holidays and other special times.
