Linksys wireless router issues I have sworn by Linksys wireless routers for as long as I have had wifi. It seems like to me the newer models are much more pron to problems. I upgraded the church and my home to the newer style black linksys from the old blue boxes. I am having issues with the networks in both places. I have to reset the one at my house anytime I want my laptop to connect but the wired network has been fairly stable. My pastor has been complain that he is always having to reset the one at the church to get his laptop to connect and now my wife who is the church secratery is saying that she is having to reset it more and more often. I was experiencing issues this afternoon with just loosing network and internet access. Both home and church are uplinked to a switch for the wired end of the network if that matters. 1. Am I the only one having these issues with the newer linksys equipment? 2. Whats the best reasonable priced alternative? THanks Dustin

I have 2 Linksys WRT54GL wireless routers that are 5-6 years old. I have only had to reboot them a few time over the years. I updated the firmware to DDWRT so they are not running stock firmware. I have heard that the newer Linksys routers are not as good, so you may want to get one of the GL models.

I've had a few customers with newer Linksys products that lock up constantly in a well ventilated area, and they were setup perfectly. Not much room for configuration error in a home network. They would literally not pass out addresses over DHCP until a power cycle was performed. No firmware was available at the time so I can't confirm whether an upgrade would solve any problems.

http://www.ubnt.com/unifi Some here have also reported good luck with the Zyxel managed routers. I will never buy anther consumer/unmanaged wifi access point again. If you need a router because your Netgear was doing double duty, look at either pfSense on an old box or a low priced atom box - or for an integrated package that will have a bit of a learning curve mikrotik routers are pretty impressive ($50 for a five port unit that uses a fraction of power as a PC). And if you were using a consumer router like a linksys to do be your router/gateway/NAT - you might find your internet is much faster than you thought if you switch to pfSense or a MikroTik router.

+1! Agreed! I bought one of the APs for my house and am now implementing them at my Church as they are super stable, easy to setup and flexible. I love the "Guest" network ability with portal to force agreeing to terms and conditions!
