Reccommendations on re-newing a domain

Hey All.

My domain name is up for re-newal, and well, $30 seems a tad expensive when you compare to places such as GoDaddy.com. Who often offer them for like $8.99

Is it worthwhile transferring my domain name to godaddy... I could then get my contact info masked.

Any thoughts?

LUcas

Lucas,
I have been using GoDaddy.com for a few years and haven't any problems with them, other than them always offering to sell more names
. If you can save a few bucks, why not do it.

I moved most of mine from register.com over to godaddy. No problems here. So, DITTO (but I have more than Phil ).

Hi Everyone,

I've only posted here a few times but try and read through new posts whenever I can. This topic caught my attention as I'm also trying to figure out where to move my domains. I'm not moving based on price, although it is a factor, but because of the integrity of my current registrar. The registrar that I use seems go out of its way to try and sell domain services by using sex. They are even bragging about how their recent Super Bowl commercials were so trashy, that the TV network rejected them. The banner at the top of their website invites visitors to view these “rejected” commercials.

I know that I can just ignore these things, but as a Christian I’m struggling with giving my money to someone who openly promotes immorality. I’m not trying to be a prude, but I am trying to be a Romans 12 Christian. To do that I have to think differently than the way the rest of the world thinks and not just look the other way when it suits my needs. On the other hand, they (my registrar) offer great prices and lots of services and I do want to be a good steward of the money that I have. Besides, most of the other registrars out there are just resellers for the one I’m referring to. Even the Christian host company that I use, sells domain services through them (not their host services though).

All of that said, I’m not trying to be “preachy”, I just wanted to get others’ input on this topic. This topic doesn’t have to just be about domain registrars either. We all use wireless providers, phone companies, gas stations, etc. who, as demonstrated by their commercials, political endorsements, hiring policies, and such do not have the values that as Christians we are called to live by.

So back to the original topic of "Recommendations on renewing a domain", does anyone have any recommendations for a decent registrar that has integrity (and plenty of services) for a decent price?

Thanks for listening (reading),
Dave Hauck

Myself, I have most of my domains through www.PairNIC.com as that is Name register "branch" of their hosting company, I i like to keep business all with the same company. I have used pair for over 10 years now, and while there are some places cheaper, their reputation makes it worth it to me.

I don't know how much GoDaddy is but 1and1.com starts at $6.12 a year.

Our pastors object to GoDaddy's advertising campaigns, so our web host takes care of ours with BulkRegister - which us mere mortal end users can't deal with directly.

I guess I'm naive.... don't watch football... or better yet, sheltered...

I've noticed the GoDaddy girl on their site and in emails, but didn't think much about it (I am married to a babe, after all). I can't say I've ever seen a GoDaddy commercial. I didn't see any links to commercials on their sites. Are they really that bad? I'd move my business somewhere else if someone could convince me.
