Question Dell Monitor Problem

We recently added a new primary monitor, a Dell SE178WFP LCD to our Gateway computer with a new ATI Radeon HD2400 Pro AGP dual head video card. Our seconday is our MAG 500P, 15" LCD. The Dell's resolution is set to VESA 1152 x 864, while the MAG is set at 800 x 600. PowerPoint slide shows run fine, but while playing DVDs, the new Dell goes into "Powersave" mode and shuts down where we have to reboot the PC. I've turned off the sleep modes for the Dell monitor but I'm not sure this is the cause of the problem. The Dell is connected to an Extron VGA amp box which is connected directly to the video card while the MAG is directly connected to the PC video card since we also use a projector. Any ideas on why this might occur and what I might try to solve the problem? Our present workaround is a portable DVD player connected directly to our main board (Allen & Heath 2400). Thanks for your help!

Both monitors are running at 60Hz. We were using Windows Media Player to run the videos, but we also have had problems when running videos embedded within PowerPoint.

It really sounds like a resolution problem.
