VGA spliter via cat5 question

Would I be able to make an RCA to VGA cord like this http://myhometheater.homestead.com/vgacable.html

and then patch it to this splitter/expander
http://www.smartvm.com/4-PORT-VGA-VI...CAT5-P7547.htm

or a similar interface to patch the audio/video feed from a DVD player / recorder to different classrooms in our main building?

The devices you've selected don't appear to support audio. What did you have in mind for the audio if you can get the video piece to work? How many classrooms, how are they distributed (i.e. distance from the transmitter)?

Oops, thanks for catching that. Blond moment... I was thinking they wired in L/R audio plus video. I forgot about the new age HD video rigs.

Let's try this again...

http://www.smartvm.com/CAT5-COMPONEN...ORT-P25416.htm

to

http://www.smartvm.com/COMPONENT-VID...0ft-P25415.htm

or is there a better way?

It should be at most 300 foot of cat5 for each send. Since we are in a fairly dense city area, I don't think I can trust wireless not picking up interference. As for the audio, I am planning to use the stereo monitor outs and go TS to RCA for the audio. The video will just be patching the direct from a camera to a DVD recorder/player and then to the splitter. I'm trying to keep this simple and "oops" proof.

We will be running it to guaranteed one classroom, but I have a feeling we will run it to two; if not more. Spare channels can always come in handy, you never wanna skimp on $10 to get exactly what you need with no room for expansion...

I'm sorry, what do you mean by "TS to RCA" (I know RCA, what is your TS)?

What is your actual application, playing a DVD or showing a Camera (i.e. in school News Report)?

The DVD recorder will be a method of recording; or playback if needed, that will relay the combined audio and video signal to the splitter. I'm trying to keep our video rig simple, cheap and easy to operate.

TS, the term for a hot and cold only connectors used to send mono audio signals. Stands for tip / sleeve. The same connector used on patch cables for instruments.

I was basically saying that I will soldier together a cable that will take the L and R outputs as mono signals from the stereo monitor send and directly wire it to the DVD recorder as a transfer box capable of capture.
