gaming headset - Two way radio?

Will a gaming headset with a built in mic that you get for your computer work with two way radios? I suspect I would have to convert from 3.5 to 2.5 stereo. But is it even worth driving to best buy to pick one up?

Gameing Headset- Computer or Game Console?

A Gameing Headset for a computer is likely to have two seperate 3.5mm connectors, because a computer would have seperate audio out/ mic in jacks. Gameing headset for a xbox360, or the like would have a single 2.5 trs plug, just as would a cellphone headset. I have used my xbox headset on my cellphone before, and it works but the quality wasn't the best. Also, they make a "telephone operator" (like this) that my wife uses in her home office.

As to the quality of voice it will be a trial and error, as the telephone headset doesn't sound as good on the xbox ans the xbox headset, and the xbox headset doesn't sound as good on the phone, etc.

hope this helps.

We've spent some time at our church getting gaming headsets to work with out 2-way personal radios. They work brilliantly, until the PA is in use, then they're simply too distorted to make out what's being said!

We're now saving for a dedicated party-line intercom system!

Hope this helps.

Kind regards,
-John.

headsets

We came up with a 6 station setup using ghe gaming headset all plugged into a mixer that we had not in use. 48v provides power for the mics and we purchased
xlr to 3.5 plugs.

The setup allows for chat in on ear and direct feed from sound in the other ear.
We are also set so anyone that may not need to speak to us can monitor with
standard headphones.

If you can change the two 3,5mm to whatever connector there is on the radio, the connector is not a problem.
The cheap gaming headsets have open earpads, so when you have loud sound in the room, people have to turn up the radio volume to an unpleasent level, and all your communication could be heard by people sitting close to persons wearing headsets.

Do you happen to have photos or schematic of this set up??? I am on a very tight budget for our video ministry and would love to find an alternative to FRS radios....

Pictures

I have not taken any but we could do that.
We find they work pretty good for most of our
needs I recently saw a pair that had more CUP type
earpieces we may try one to see if it helps when we need
one down front.

They work well enough that one of my youth members
told me it was hard to talk to another person while wereing because they could not hearing with it on .

I did try with several headsets on one 48v line and it worked fine .
The only issue we had is a cable creating a AM radio antenna we could hear
a local station. once we located the source of that things back to normal.

Will get could pictures too you hopefully I wont forget sunday.

You will also find that most cellphone, telephone operated style headsets as well as the Xbox style with not work for small FRS style radios because the polarity of the 2.5 mm plug is different. On FRS headsets the tip is speaker, the ring is mic, and the sleeve is a common ground. However on cellphone/Xbox heat sets, the tip is mic and the ring is speaker, with the sleeve command....
