My old church had the sound area at the back of the sanctuary on a raised platform. the floor did not slope much so a camera was installed above the doorway at the end of the center aisle and zoomed in on the platform.

At my current church, we (audio board and video switcher) are located on the side of the balcony which means half of the platform is out of view of our sound tech.
This was corrected with a strateically placed fixed mount camcorder feeding a small flatscreen monitor mounted near the audio board. Not sure on the size of the monitor but it is like what you would see for those new incar DVD player setups.
