How can I record our Live Stream?

Can anyone tell me the best way to record our services that we are streaming through Ustream? We have been having some crashes with the Ustream recording feature and I can't trust it as our sole recording source any longer. What are you all using for:

1. Software recorder
2. Hardware recorder

We are using a single DV camcorder going into a firewire port on the PC.

You could also use Adobe OnLocation which offers direct-to-disk recording via firewire.

The obvious choice would be to put a tape in your camcorder and hit "record". Next would be to run a composite out of the camera into a DVD recorder (preferably one that records to an internal hard drive).

We record straight to our Mac Pro, compress to H.264 and upload to Vimeo.com for archival and hosting. We don't use UStream because it doesn't meet our quality standards and because there really isn't much demand for live streaming of our services. (Or as I like to say, "View all our services LIVE in Real3D with 360.1 surround sound at GetYourButtToChurch.com")

Thanks everyone, I will take a look at the software options first since the DV tape option is a bit of a pain when it comes to archiving and we have no other recording hardware at this point. The input is appreciated.

How is it a pain? Eject tape > label tape > put on shelf. I can't think of any archival method simpler than that.

You don't rewind in the camera. You rewind in the deck.

Having to grab a clip or two from the tape is what I am referring to. It is easier to work with if it is already on the hard drive. Less time involved in capturing the file from the tape.

That's not an archive. That's online.

Love that tag line to GetYourButtToChurch.com...

We want to setup the streaming over the internet for our members that have moved far away to other states... I wonder if we can setup the feed to flash a flashy page based on the tag line if they are accessing locally...lol.. OKAY.. I will keep it serious...

We use the feed into the computer using Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder (free program).
Flash is then used to directly to stream to a channel in uStream and Flash also has a feature "DVR" which allows us to record the live stream.
