Wimbeldon TV Coverage

This is not church related just a broadcast question. I am watching Wimbledon and I know that there TV format is PAL and US is NTSC. How do they convert the live broadcast to US format from PAL?

There are "PAL-NTSC" Converter boxes out there... not sure how this has changed now that we're all digital... probably just more expensive boxes...

The short answer is there are real-time conversion units called standards converters which handle that conversion.

The long answer is that each similar sporting event has a host broadcaster which is responsible to provide a "pool feed" in whatever broadcast standard(s) the licensing agency (the tennis association) requires. International broadcasters (who in this case brought the programming to the US) are licensees. Licensees broadcast only the pool feed, or the pool feed mixed with a small number of dedicated cameras (to the licensee), or the pool feed mixed with additional content originating from the licensees home studios and transmit (via satellite or fiber) to their own NOC (Network Operations Center). If a standards conversion, or ARC (aspect ratio conversion) needs to be done it can occur before, or after the satellite/fiber transmission. The NOC adds commercial or local content and then broadcasts to the viewers' homes, or affiliates.
