capture card for streaming broadcast

what advantage would a osprey 240 capture card have over a regular ATI TV capture card? i just want to know if its worth spending the money on a 400 dollar card

I would have to say that that the Osprey usually works consistently without any hicups or problems. For streaming purposes, this is the way to go because it has its own CPU built into the card and it does not pull on the system resources.

The ATI card is software specific and it is not likely to work with other applications other than the ones that come bundled with the card so if you plan on using it with Windows Media Encoder or the Flash encoding software, the ATI might not be able to do it.

I would say it depends on your card slots before and after your upgrade. The quad core isn't going to get you much in the way of speed or quality so i would go after the card. That said there are other really nice cards out there so you may want to look around. In the end it's up to you.

The Black Magic Intensity Pro springs to mind. I'm sure some more are running around upstairs but I'll have to remember them before i can pass them along.
