Where are you guys seeing this? I don't see anything about it on the CCLI website.

Just got the email from CCLI, this is a Godsend! When I first looked into a license from Copyright Solver it was going to be $1000. Even the drop to $500 was still prohibitive. I can't believe CCLI is now offering the same thing for $75! It is the same thing, right?

The CCLI license actually goes up to $1,500. Much more importantly, it only covers about 200,000 Christian songs. The WORSHIPcast license covers more than 16 million Christian and secular songs.

If the song is not in the catalog, you can't webcast it. Do you really want your set list dictated by a limited song catalog? If so, the CCLI license is for you.

Finally, the CCLI license only covers worship services. The WORSHIPcast license covers any of your performances including concerts and video productions.

The CCLI license is a little bit cheaper, but you get what you pay for.

Question - On a day to day basis, if we use CCLI for performance licensing and a song is not in CCLI then we dont have right to perform it. Being able to webcast the perfomance wouldnt do much good, would it?

Great question with a very straightforward answer.

The first and most important thing that you need to know is that the CCLI license DOES NOT provide any performance rights whatsoever. Instead, the CCLI license allows you to make handouts of lyrics, project lyrics and make a small number of CDs and DVDs.

(You can get a breakdown on what is covered by the CCLI license and other blanket licenses here.)

The Religious Service Exemption in US copyright law allows churches to perform any music, Christian or secular, during worship services without paying any royalties. The Religious Service Exemption does not extend to re-transmission of services over the internet, so that is why you need a webcasting license.

(You can access our presentation, "Top 5 Myths of Performance Rights" here)

So to be clear, your church can perform any music it wants during worship services and you don't need a license to do that. The WORSHIPcast allows you to maximize this opportunity by covering the songs that you choose to play.
